What did nearly 400 juniors and seniors sound like when they expressed pride in their Admission Possible program? Loud. So loud, in fact, that their cheers drowned out the coaches’ introductions from a podium at Breck School, where students from nine Minneapolis and St. Paul high schools gathered for a kickoff event on Sunday, October 2, 2005. Judging from this enthusiasm, Admission Possible’s sixth year of service is going to be one full of energy.
It will also be a year full of expectations. CEO & Founder Jim McCorkell reminded students of last year’s achievements—juniors improved their ACT scores by an average of 16%, and 100% of seniors were admitted to college—and encouraged this year’s students to fully engage themselves in the college preparation process in order to reach their potential.
After the celebration, Admission Possible students explored the Minnesota Independent School Partnership (MISP) college fair, where they talked one-on-one with 150 representatives from colleges across the country. For juniors, it was a time to expand their knowledge of educational opportunities and the college application process; for seniors, it was a time to learn more about the favorite schools on their lists. College representatives complimented Admission Possible students on their thoughtful preparation and conversation.
Admission Possible would like to thank the following for making the kickoff event and college fair possible: Melissa Soderberg, Admission Possible board member and Breck counselor, for helping to coordinate this event; MISP for inviting Admission Possible students to visit their college fair; the 150 college representatives for extending their stay to meet with Admission Possible students; and Breck School for donating snacks.
