MILWAUKEE NONPROFIT OFFERS COLLEGE GRADS MEANINGFUL WORK
Admission Possible is searching for idealistic leaders to fill more than 60 positions
Milwaukee, Wis. – Admission Possible offices in Milwaukee and St. Paul are recruiting to fill more than 60 AmeriCorps positions in the next month. The nonprofit offers free college prep programming to promising, low-income high school students and is looking for high school and college coaches, community and events organizers and external relations team members.
Admission Possible’s mission attracted current Admission Possible AmeriCorps member Mike Molzberger, a philosophy major from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. “I was drawn to Admission Possible because of the very real need the organization meets in the community,” Molzberger said. “Admission Possible has a proven track record of getting low income students into and helping them succeed in college, and it was something I wanted to be part of.”
A Waukesha native, Molzberger was looking for a way that he could make a difference in the Milwaukee community, as well as grow professionally. Earning a competitive position with Admission Possible became the answer.
“Admission Possible has impacted my life on many levels, everything from my mentoring and instructing abilities, to teaching me how to be a better leader,” Molzberger said.
Receiving four applications for every one service position at Admission Possible means the process is a competitive one. Kate Lundeen, Executive Director at Admission Possible of Greater Milwaukee said, “We want idealistic leaders. Our work is rewarding, but it’s also challenging. The perfect candidates not only want to change the world but are also willing to put in a lot of effort to do that.”
AmeriCorps members contribute to all areas of Admission Possible. Most will directly work with juniors and seniors in area high schools, practicing for the ACT exam and filling out applications for colleges and financial aid. There is also a team of AmeriCorps college coaches that reaches out to Admission Possible students who have graduated high school and are pursuing higher education.
Some members serve by building the capacity of the organization by supporting fundraising and communication efforts as well as planning events and service opportunities.
With just two weeks until applications close, Lundeen is optimistic about next year’s team. “Every year we see such talented young people apply. It’s exciting to help them develop as leaders.”
