The membership of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits recently elected Admission Possible as a recipient of the 2005 Nonprofit Mission Award for Nonprofit Innovation. MCN honored four Nonprofit Mission Award recipients at its Annual Conference Opening Reception on November 3, 2005. Other recipients included the Minnesota American Indian Chamber of Commerce for Nonprofit Advocacy, Women’s Foundation of Minnesota’s Hmong Women’s Giving Circle for Responsive Philanthropy, and the YWCA of Minneapolis for Anti-Racism Initiative.
A short film at the awards ceremony featured Coach Nick Maryns and his senior class at Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis; Kayoua Vang, a freshman at Macalester College; CEO Jim McCorkell and Board Chair David Laird. Admission Possible was recognized for applying recent college graduates, specifically AmeriCorps members, to the issue of college access; and for fostering a value of community service in its students. The awards presentation was broadcast on TPT’s Minnesota Channel in January 2006.
Special thanks to Dan Cramer of Grassroots Solutions and Robin Melville from ServeMinnesota for nominating Admission Possible for the award and to all the MCN member organizations for their votes!
