Eight students receive APIASF scholarships 7/24/2010 10:34 AM Not many scholarship recipients are given such a memorable ceremony as was a group of Hmong women invited by State Sen. Mee Moua to the Minnesota Senate Chamber at the State Capitol last week. It was the second year in a row that several Twin Cities area students received $2,500 university scholarships from the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund that was made possible with donations from Farmers Insurance.
Five of the young women are Admission Possible program graduates, and Xue in particular talks about how Admission Possible helped her secure scholarship funds. Read the full story in Asian American Press. |

Admission Possible aims to place more low-income kids on the path to a college education 5/26/2010 3:00 PM
At a White House event last June, President Barack Obama highlighted the work of St. Paul-based Admission Possible, an organization that helps teenagers from poor families get into college. During his comments about innovative nonprofits, Obama acknowledged Admission Possible’s founder and chief executive officer, Jim McCorkell, while citing the group’s work with low-income families that resulted in almost all of its 2008 class getting into college. Admission Possible shows the way for college aspirants 5/22/2010 8:00 AM Today, 667 seniors from 19 metro-area high schools -- Admission Possible - Greater Twin Cities' largest graduating class ever -- will celebrate their achievement and the nonprofit's 10th anniversary at Northrup Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus. Helping overcome hurdles: Group working to get more students to college 5/7/2010 1:31 PM Last year, expectations were low that South Division High School junior Laticqwenicia Clarke would attend college. Now, as she nears the end of her senior year, Clarke has gotten a high enough score on her ACT to be accepted into six schools, and in the fall, she will be the first person in her family to attend college. Clarke credits her success to Admission Possible, a nonprofit organization that expanded to Milwaukee in 2008 to help promising low-income students prepare for and earn admission into college.
